Un pequeño paraíso: aislado del mundo, es un lugar en el que se puede estar tranquilamente
We live on the hill called "Point du Jour" overlooking the city of Lyon, and it was here that the original Roman town was settled. On the hill, it's like small village with it's square and open air market twice a week, several excellent bakeries, an exceptional butcher shop, an organic food store, and more. 20 minutes walk are the Roman amphitheaters and the wonderful Roman Museum. Then you can walk down the hill to the "Vieux Lyon" -- the oldest part of the city, which is the largest intact collection of Medieval buildings and streets in France! It's beautiful, filled with restaurants and cafes, and bordered by the river Saone. Within the Vieux Lyon, there are many things to see, from the cathedral which is home to one of the world's most fascinating Medieval clocks, to museums, and much more. From there, you have the rest of our wonderful city to explore -- from the open air bars, picnic lawns, and bike paths along the rivers, to the many beautiful shady squares lined with cafes, major museums, and more. Lyon is known as one of the gastronomique centers of France, and we'll be happy to direct you the best restaurants. You can also visit the superb "Les Halles" -- a food lover's paradise.
In addition, within 10 minutes drive of our place there is a quite impressive Roman aqueduct! A very large section, in fact. And then 10 minutes farther, you are at the foot of the Monts de Lyonnais, which is a wonderful place for hikes and mountain biking. Just outside the city limits, there is a vast park around a large pleasant lake where you can swim. Lyon is at the crossroads of several different regions, filled with Medieval towns and ruins, beautiful and varied landscapes, and much more. There are no less than three major wine growing regions a short drive away -- Beaujolais, Bourgogne, and Cote du Rhone -- where you can go walking, visit villages and chateaux, and taste wine of course! If you'd like to explore further, within one hour you can be in the pre-Alps, or down in the Drome or the Ardeche, all of which are stunning regions with a great many things to see and do.
